Returning Student Housing Selection Process
Step 2: Match With Your Roommates

Roommate Matching Opens in the MyHousing Portal on February 12, 2024

Priority deadline for submitting completed roommate pairings is 11:59pm on April 7, 2024.
Roommate pairings submitted after this deadline will result in a later housing selection time.

At first, it may seem like a great idea to live with your friends, teammates, or classmates based off of how you get along outside of a living space. Living with someone can be very different than working with them, or being friends with them, which is why we strongly encourage students to have a conversation with one another to find if they will be compatible as roommates before going into housing selection.

Some of the questions you should ask one another before matching as roommates are:

  • Do you want to live in the same residence hall next year?
  • When do you generally go to sleep and wake up on weekdays vs. weekends?
  • How do you plan to schedule sleep, study, and socializing time in your room/suite/apartment?
  • Do you have any unique quirks a roommate should be aware of?
  • When are you okay with guests coming into your room/suite/apartment?
  • How will you and your roommate keep your space clean AND tidy?

Some residence halls require that students be a certain age or class standing in order to live there. This is important to keep in mind while making your roommate groupings. Additionally, in order to select an available space during your pick time, you will need to have enough in your group to fill the space.

For Example: to select a Broadhurst Suite, you must have three people in your group (no less, no more) who are all at least 20 years old by the start of the Spring 2025 term OR be a senior by the end of the Spring 2024 term.

Priority Points & Priority Numbers

Priority Numbers are administered to each individual student participating in Returning Student Housing Selection Process. These numbers are used to determine the order in which students can select their housing for the next year. Priority numbers run between "1" and "615"; the closer a student is to "1", the sooner their pick time will be.

"Priority Numbers" are based on the number of "Priority Points" a student earns. The more "points" a student earns, the closer to "1" their "Priority Number" will be.

  • Sophomores: 20 points
  • Juniors: 30 points
  • Seniors: 40 points
  • Graduate and Doctoral: 50 points

Student newly enrolled in the spring term, who do not carry credits will receive points for the credits they are registered for during the spring term.
Student Conduct 0-30 All students living on campus start their academic year with 30 points related to student conduct. Students who do not violate the AIC Student Code of Conduct keep all 30 points for housing selection. If a student is found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct and it results in removal from housing or probation-level sanctions, they will lose 30 points.

IMPACT Participation 10-30

Students who successfully participate in the IMPACT Interest Housing in the fall and spring terms will earn points for their participation as follows:

10pts: attended less than 50% of all meetings/programs.

20pts: attend more than 50% of all meetings/programs.

30pts: attended more than 75% of all meetings/programs.

How Your Priority Points Changes When Matched With Roommates:

When students match with roommates, their Priority Points are averaged together to form a new Priority Number. Students or groups of students with a number closer to "1" will have an earlier pick time.

After students have had the opportunity to match as roommates, their Priority Numbers will be averaged and their pick time will be released to them. Once a student or a group of students receive their pick time, they will be able to login to the MyHousing Portal at that time to select their room for the 2024-2025 Academic year.

If a student or group of students misses their pick time, they will still be able to login to the MyHousing Portal to select any room still available to them. They will not be able to login to select their room before their pick time.

When Are Pick Times Created and Released:
Pick times are created on a rolling basis the week of housing selection, and they are released the day before at 4:30pm. If roommate pairings must be changed after each selection date, this must be completed between 5pm - 1am. Once pick times are posted in the MyHousing Portal, students will not be able to adjust their roommate groups as this will create an unfair process for students who meet the deadlines and may have their pick times affected.  Please review the following to further understand:

Day of Housing Selection Week Selection Process When Pick Times for the Day are Released
Tuesday Acorn Apartments Housing Selection Monday at 4:00pm
Tuesday Edgewood & Broadhurst Suites Monday at 4:00pm
Thursday Traditional Double Rooms Wednesday at 4:00pm
Friday Unmatched Manual Placement N/A: students are manually placed therefore a pick time is not needed.
