The Dexter Counseling Center Team strives to serve the holistic mental health needs for American International College students using a brief, intentional strength-based therapeutic model. We focus sessions on identifying issues or major concerns, problem-solving, and providing support to facilitate a student's develop of strategies for addressing challenges and reaching their personal goals. Our mission is to support the overall wellness of AIC students as they navigate academic, developmental, and interpersonal challenges so they can function successfully during their time at AIC and beyond.

The Dexter Counseling Center is staffed by professional counselors who are bound by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect confidentiality. This means mental health records are protected and will not be released without explicit written permission by the student or a rare emergency situation in which lives are in danger. Counseling Center records are not part of the educational record. We will not answer questions about any student from parents, family, friends, significant others, professors, employers, or anyone else outside of the counseling center staff. There are a few limitations to confidentiality specifically related to safety, which your clinician will review with you in person.

There is much more to wellness than physical or mental health. Other areas of wellness include (but are not limited to): intellectual, emotional, social, career, and spiritual. If one area is over taxed or under developed, it will cause the wheel to be off balance and will influence other sections – thus hindering your overall experience of well-being.

Schedule an appointment with a Dexter Counseling Center provider today to learn more about the wellness wheel and how you can improve challenging areas in your life to achieve optimal wellness.
