Black History Month is Celebrated at AIC

Throughout February, AIC is observing Black History Month with several events on campus in honor of achievements by African Americans.

The month began with a Black student entrepreneur panel, Black History Month pop culture trivia, and a screening of the movie Wakanda Forever in the Stinger Pub.

The newly created Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging is hosting its first-ever event tonight, February 9 from 8 to 10 p.m.  Concert and Cuisine will include a live performance by Malado Music in the Stinger and refreshments.

On Tuesday, February 21, AIC President Hubert Benitez, DDS, PhD, is inviting students, faculty, and staff who identify as Black to come together to share their stories and experiences from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Stinger Pub. Lunch will be offered. Please RSVP to Candy Lash no later than Monday, February 13.

And on February 24, The AIC Theater Arts Program will host a performance of the Core Ensemble: Celebrating Diversity Through Chamber Music Theatre production, Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of Harlem Renaissance, in the Griswold Theater on campus. This exciting piece of theater and music transports the audience to the world of the Harlem Renaissance through the words and art of its fathers: Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Claude McKay, and Aaron Douglas. A shortened performance will take place at noon, and the full-length version will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tickets do not need to be purchased, but donations will be accepted at the door.
