How to Set Up Self-Service Microsoft MFA

To add an additional layer of security to your account, AIC requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) . The MFA process combines two layers of security: something you know (your password) and something you have (your mobile device). If you do not have a mobile device, please email IT.Helpdesk@aic.edu to discuss alternatives.

How to set up Microsoft Authenticator

1. Open the Play Store or App Store on your mobile device. Search for Microsoft Authenticator . Select Install. (Below are examples of the logo for the application you need to install.)

Once installed, in the Microsoft

Authenticator app:

Select Agree for Microsoft needs basic app data.

Select Add Account and then choose

Work or School Account.

Select Scan a QR code.

Select OK to allow permissions to your camera and set phone aside for now .

Your device will now be ready to scan a code in Step 6 .

2. Using a separate device, like your laptop, desktop or tablet(NOT

your mobile device), do the following :

log into start.aic.edu

(username: firstname.lastname@aic.edu and your AIC password)

3 . You will be prompted to set up MFA . Click Next .

4. Click Next to continue setting up Microsoft Authenticator.

5 . Click Next again .

6 . Scan the QR code on your screen with Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device and click Next. It is very important to do the next steps .This QR code is an example.

7 . Click Next again .

8 . DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP --- You will be sent a push to the app on your phone to Approve or Deny . Approve, when you know that you are the one trying to log in . If you are not logging in, then choose deny.

9 . Click Approve on your phone . Then next on your computer

10.Success!

Now when you log into your AIC account you will be sent a push to your phone to approve or deny access to your account . Approve when it is you accessing your account .

    Please go directly to  myapps.microsoft.com
We will update the campus if we can get the redirect issue resolved.

Remember, we are converting numerous systems, so some applications will not work until we are complete.  This will take up to 3 days.
    Check your authentication devices here

We recommend removing your mobile number as it will no longer be support for MFA as of October 9th:

On the setup screen, click on I want to use a different method.  This will walk you through setting up a text or call.
Yes, on the setup page, click on I want to use a different authenticator app.  This will walk you through setting up a different authentication app with similar steps provided to use Microsoft Authenticator.
If you have a flip phone, you can set up texting or calling.

You can set up texting or calling.

Set up texting or calling instead of the authenticator app.  This will only work if you have set up texting or calling prior to getting a new phone.

Yes, set up your second phone as an Alternate phone.

If you have an international phone number and it is taking longer than a few minutes to get a text or call, please use the Authenticator app as your primary authentication method or contact the helpdesk for more options.

Check you authentication devices settings here before traveling to make sure you are not relying on devices you won't have access to (or devices which will not have a mobile data connection)
Your password has a word, phrase, or pattern that makes your password easily guessable. Try again using a stronger password.
You do not have the Multifactor portion of your account set up.  Please contact the AIC IT Help Desk for assistance for resetting your password and setting up your MFA.

    Email Notice July 10th

This is a reminder that AIC is changing our Single Sign On provider on Wednesday July 17th starting at 8am. This is a three-day process to bring back 26 systems that use single sign on today. This must be done during work hours because we need to schedule and work with vendors to enable them with our new provider (Microsoft).

We intend to bring up Microsoft (email, teams), Canvas, and MyAIC portal first. We expect this to take the entire morning of July 17th. We recommend that offices plan work that can be done on the new Jenzabar project or systems that are not single sign on until their systems become operational again. Please see listing and tentative timing of systems in the portal announcement and associated pages. In this process, http://start.aic.edu will be replaced and as systems are enabled for single sign on, they will be updated on the new page.

We will send out additional information and post it in the portal next week.

If you have specific questions, please send an email to the IT.Helpdesk@aic.edu and we will have the appropriate person respond to you.

    Thank you,
