Students may request funds for an emergency situation or for unanticipated and compelling circumstances that jeopardize their ability to successfully continue in school. Students may request to have dining meal swipes added to their account, to receive funding from the Student Emergency Fund, to receive emergency temporary on-campus housing, or some combination.

Student Emergency Funds will be provided in the form of grants, and typically will range from $100 to $1,000 depending on the need.

To be considered eligible to receive funding from the Student CARE & Emergency Fund, Meal Swipe Bank, Emergency Housing, or other basic needs support, the student must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate, degree-seeking student
  • Be in good academic, financial, and conduct standing.
  • Demonstrate financial hardship due to an emergency situation, or for unanticipated and compelling circumstances that jeopardize the student’s ability to successfully continue at AIC.
  • Consider and utilize other sources of funding as appropriate, such as recommended student loans, unless not available in a sufficiently timely manner.
  • Have not received funding from the Student Emergency Fund (SEF) in the past 12 months (for emergency funding only).

Priority for Student Emergency Funds will be given based on:

  • The urgency of the situation.
  • The student’s overall financial picture and level of hardship.
  • Whether other resources/support available to the student have been utilized.

Expenses that will be considered include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical, dental, or mental health emergency expenses that are not covered by insurance.
  • Replacement costs of essential personal belongings in the event of fire, theft, or natural disaster that are not covered by insurance.
  • Travel in the case of the death or illness of an immediate family member.
  • Temporary support costs for a student in a dangerous situation due to threats or acts of violence, including the needs of victims of domestic violence.
  • Individually recommended or required services that are considered critical to a student’s success, for example, diagnostic testing for Accessibility Resources.
  • Support for emergency dependent-related expenses, for example, childcare.
  • Costs associated with a sudden loss of housing.
  • Overdue utility bills reaching a turn-off notice.

Expenses that will not be considered are as follows:

  • Tuition, fees, room, and board for those already receiving need-based financial aid.
  • Books, and other standard expenses associated with attending AIC.
  • Costs of optional programs, study abroad costs, entertainment, recreation, non-emergency travel and other non-essential expenses.

AIC's meal swipe bank is designed to support students who are experiencing a short-term situation impacting their ability to access and/or afford meals.

How it Works:

Students can request a one-time allocation of AIC dining meal swipes or a staff member can submit it on their behalf. Once a need is identified, meal swipes are loaded onto a student's ID that can be used in the Dining Commons or the Hive. The meal swipe bank is supported by generous donations from other students of their unused swipes as well as monetary donations from employees, alumni, and other supporters.

AIC's Emergency Housing is designed to support students who are experiencing a short-term situation impacting their ability to access and/or afford safe and appropriate housing.

How it Works:

Students can request a short-term assignment of on-campus AIC housing or a staff member can submit it on their behalf. Once a need is identified, the student is assigned to space in a college-owned residence hall based on availability.
