Introduction to Work-Study Program

AIC's Work-Study Program provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical work experience while earning money to help finance their education. This program allows students to work on-campus in various departments, offering flexibility in work hours that accommodate their academic schedules. For supervisors, the Work-Study program offers access to a pool of motivated students eager to contribute to their departments while developing essential skills. Whether you are a student looking to build your resume or a supervisor interested in tapping into fresh talent, AIC's Work-Study program is designed to be mutually beneficial.

Below are numerous resources for both STUDENTS and SUPERVISORS to answer questions or provide guidance.

Interested in Working On Campus?

The Saremi Center for Career Development maintains a list of open work-study positions on JobXhttps://aic.studentemployment.ngwebsolutions.com.

AIC has both Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions and Institutionally Funded positions.  If you have received federal work-study funds as part of your financial aid, you may apply to either FWS or Institutional positions.  International students and students who do not receive FWS are eligible for Institutional positions only. For all campus jobs for students, go to JobX.

Both of these types of positions are limited!  It is highly recommended that you take the time to submit a quality application and go directly to the supervisor listed on the posting (dressed to impress) to express your interest and make a great first impression.  Supervisors rarely contact applicants and usually hire from those who make an effort to reach out to them.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:  If you are hired, you will need to complete the Federal W-4 Form, IRS I-9 Form, Massachusetts M4 Form, and Direct Deposit Form. You will need to show us original identity documents to complete the I-9 Form. We cannot and will not accept scanned copies, photocopies, or any other substitute.

What student resources are available to help prepare work-study students for a job?

Work-Study 101 Presentation (see Supervisor Downloads section) is a brief presentation and quiz that can help prepare students for work-study jobs.  Starting Summer 2016, it is incorporated into the Work-Study Job Application, so any student that has applied for a job has had a chance to complete it--however, it is voluntary, not required.

Students are also provided with a copy of the Work-Study 101 Checklist (see Supervisor Downloads section), a brief guide/worksheet of topics they should discuss with their new supervisor to clearly establish job duties and expectations. In addition, all students are required to read the STUDENT Employment Handbook (see Supervisor Downloads section) to understand procedures and responsibilities.

Finally, all work-study students will be required to complete a basic FERPA understanding form, but supervisors who know that their students will have access to confidential student information are strongly encouraged to cover this topic in more detail, highlighting how it applies to your office in particular. Contact the Saremi Center if you would like for your student worker to receive the link for the full FERPA training.
