What student resources are available to help prepare work-study students for a job?
Work-Study 101 Presentation (see Supervisor Downloads section) is a brief presentation and quiz that can help prepare students for work-study jobs. Starting Summer 2016, it is incorporated into the Work-Study Job Application, so any student that has applied for a job has had a chance to complete it--however, it is voluntary, not required.
Students are also provided with a copy of the
Work-Study 101 Checklist (see Supervisor Downloads section), a brief guide/worksheet of topics they should discuss with their new supervisor to clearly establish job duties and expectations. In addition, all students are required to read the
STUDENT Employment Handbook (see Supervisor Downloads section) to understand procedures and responsibilities.
Finally, all work-study students will be required to complete a basic FERPA understanding form, but supervisors who know that their students will have access to confidential student information are strongly encouraged to cover this topic in more detail, highlighting how it applies to your office in particular. Contact the Saremi Center if you would like for your student worker to receive the link for the full FERPA training.
